"The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in
half in homes with working smoke alarms," said Chief Mark Piland, Frisco
Fire Department.
The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) recommends
residents change alarm batteries at least once a year; test smoke
detectors monthly and replace alarms every ten years.
USFA and the Frisco Fire Department also advises, this is a great time of year to make sure your family has an escape plan (in the event of fire) and practice it. Fire can spread rapidly through homes, leaving as little as one to two minutes to escape safely once an alarm sounds. Having a practiced plan increases a person's chance of getting out safely.
